D-DAY 80TH ANNIVERSARY REMEMBERED!
What a special week your Community Council have had. On D-Day (Thursday 6th June) Cllr John Wagstaff, Chair of the Council was honoured to lay a wreath on behalf of the community of Penhow at the foot of the Magor War Memorial, along with the Deputy Lord Lieutenant and other local dignitaries representing the villages of Magor, Undy, Bishton, Llandevaud, Llandevenny, Penhow and Redwick. Later that evening at Parc Seymour Playing Fields, Penhow remembered again by lighting a beacon – adding to the thousands of beacons lit across the country and western Europe at 9.15pm. The Council would like to thank the Scouts for arranging and lighting the beacon. And to the bugler who play the ‘Last Post’ and ‘Reveille’.
Then, on Saturday 8th June, the Community Council were delighted to host a family fun-day. It was good to see so many families participating and picnicking on the field. The children had a wonderful time on the giant slide and bouncy castle, and dogs with waggy tails abounded in the ‘for fun dog show’: best adult and junior handlers, the waggiest tail, best treat catcher and the dog that the judge (Rt Worshipful Mayor of Newport Cllr Ray Mogford) would like to take home. We are so grateful to the Mayor for agreeing to judge the competition. Thank you also to all the stall-holders and to the vintage tractors that were a hit with both old and young.
